Installing your Self-Adhesive Wall Mural

Before you begin there are a few things to keep in mind.
We recommend a second person to help install your mural and be sure to inspect your wall. Your personal mural requires a smooth surface to ensure adhesion and proper appearance. If you are installing a traditional paper or vinyl mural that requires paste, please click here for our paste installation PDF.

Step 1

Prep Your Wall

  • Smooth out any bumps and fill any cracks in the wall.
  • Remove all switch plates and wall fixtures.
  • Clean the surface with a warm, damp towel so the mural will stick directly to the wall, avoiding any dust or residue on the surface.

Step 2

Peel and Stick

  • Measure and mark your preferred mural position on the wall.
  • Peel the backing a few inches down away from the top of the mural.
  • Apply the back of the mural to the wall and press it down.
  • Peel the backing down off the mural, a few inches at a time, while smoothing it on the wall.
  • If wrinkles appear, avoid force to get them out. Instead, rub gently to the edges of the mural. If the wrinkles will not move or dissipate, peel the mural back up and reapply.

Our murals are removable and can be reused without damaging your walls. We suggest saving the liner (backing of the mural) in order to perform a high quality transfer.

Step 3

Align Panels (Only for Multi-Paneled Wall Murals)

  • Follow the above directions.
  • Keep in mind that ensuring the proper alignment of the first panel will allow for successful installation of a multi-panel mural.
After installing the first panel, verify that it is aligned and positioned correctly on the wall. Then align panel 2 with panel 1. There will be a 2 inch overlap- panel 2 will slightly cover panel 1. Match the pattern of the mural, do not “butt seam” the mural, that is do not place both edges of the mural so that they are directly next to one another. This would cause the mural to align incorrectly. Repeat previous steps for additional panels.

Optional

Cut overlapping seams.

Place a straightedge (e.g. ruler, yard stick) in the middle of the overlap and carefully cut through both layers with a sharp razor blade or utility knife. Peel away the outer layer of excess material. Next, peel back the overlap, and remove the remaining excess material on the wall. Smooth the panels back together, so the edges join together.
Then back to the final part of the instructions:

Step 4

Eliminate Excess Material

  • Once the mural is completely adhered to the wall, cut back any excess material around ceilings, trim, and wall edges.
  • Use a straightedge and a sharp blade for the best results. Cut slowly, and carefully. Don’t forget to change blades often for the cleanest cut.
